Ethnic, Fair/Festival
Enjoy a weekend celebration of the culture, arts and traditions of the Zuni people, who have lived and farmed on a tributary of the Colorado River for 4,000 years. For this festival, Zuni artists and performers travel from their home in the Pueblo of Zuni to share their art, language, life ways, traditional music and dances at the Museum of Northern Arizona. The festival includes talks and presentations about Zuni history and traditions as well as music and dance performances. A favorite are the Zuni Olla Maidens, who dance balancing clay pots on their head, honoring ancestral women who carried water on their heads. More than 50 Zuni artists will be demonstrating and selling their artwork including potters, weavers, fetish carvers and jewelers. Children will enjoy Zuni-inspired puppet shows and crafts.
