A Pupusa is the National Food of El Salvador, it is a handmade corn tortilla filled inside with your choice of filling - traditional ones being Chicharron (Pork), Beans, Loroco (flower vine native to El Salvador). Pupusas are so popular that El Salvador declared the 2nd Sunday in November as the National Pupusas Day, but you don't have to travel to El Salvador to delight yourself with these, you can join us at the festival!
The event will start off with a civic ceremony with a rendition of the National Anthems of El Salvador and the USA.
Various performances are scheduled throughout the day.
Every year we choose an agency or agencies in the community and we aim to give back via the festival. In the past we have been able to donate towards local organizations helping disadvantaged youth in the community, scholarships for future business scholars at Arizona State University, and a local church housing refugee immigrants being released. This year we will be working with various groups in the community including:
Salvavision (they help refugee immigrants),
Florence Project (they provide probono legal assistance to minors and adults detained by immigration).
