Money flip or flop?
How to avoid falling
for online scams
Scammers are always cooking up creative new
ways to separate people from their money. The sad
reality is that it often works. The latest schemes
involve so-called "money ipping," and it's showing
up in consumers' newsfeeds on Twitter, Instagram,
Facebook and even via text messaging.
Keep these things in mind when you see an enticing
post or are randomly approached by someone
about any form of money ipping or "get rich quick"
schemes:
1. Trust your gut
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
You can ignore the testimonials with photos of big
piles of cash, the fancy cars and the ashy jewels
they displayed with captions of their "success" -
scammers may tell you that they work for a money
transmitter and have "tricks" on how to double your
money. However, monetary systems cannot be
"manipulated" by adding a few "extra 0s" to any
transaction in an attempt to turn a small investment
into big money in minutes. Cons claim they will
keep a percentage of the prot as commission, but
as soon as a victim sends the upfront investment
money, they will unfriend or block you on social
media, not answer texts or calls and disappear with
your dough without a trace.
2. Don't be fooled by a text from a "friend"
Even if a text or SMS appears to be from someone
you know, if someone's asking you for money for
any reason, you should think twice before taking
action. If you really think it's from a friend or a
social media acquaintance, contact them directly in
another way (by phone, via email or in person) to
conrm the situation. Chances are that it's really a
hacker who is masquerading as someone you really
know to try to convince you to take the bait.
3. Use your head
Does it seem realistic that someone could turn
your $200 into $2,000 by the end of the day? If it
were that easy, surely everyone would be doing
it. If it doesn't make sense to you, that's because
it's nonsense. While common sense should tell us
that this is a scam, you should also consider how it
would be legal if it did work. In this instance,
there is no logical, legal way that such a
scam could be eective and legitimate.
Never let your emotions blind you to these
facts. Even if it were possible to modify
the amount of a transfer, it would be
criminal to defraud a legitimate business by
participating in this scheme. Never invest in
something you don't totally understand.
4. Remember that you don't really know
who you're talking to
Even if the person posting on social media
or messaging you says that they work
in the nancial industry, or that they've
successfully made wads of cash and are
just sharing their good fortune out of the
kindness of their heart, remember that you
have no idea who that person really is, even
if they insist they want to get you a good
deal or help you get rich quick.
5. Never click any links or give out personal
information
Someone trying to scam you on Instagram
or any other social media site will often lure
you into a continuing conversation over text
or SMS, then try to get you to click a link to
a compromised site - or may even try to get
you to reveal personal info like your bank
account or Social Security number. Anyone
asking you for your money or sensitive
nancial details is not a giver, they're just a
taker.
Flip burgers, ip pancakes - just do not try
to ip your hard-earned cash! Never give
money to anyone promising to make you
quick and easy money. There is no such
thing as free money.

5 ways to feel good while
getting fit
Setting intentions is a
powerful thing. Then
when you have that shiny
new gym membership in
hand, you feel like nothing
stands between you and
your goals to get in shape
once and for all.
Trouble is, lack of motivation, unpreparedness and busy schedules
have a way of interfering with our plans. If you nd yourself struggling
to stick to your goals, you're in good company. A whopping 67 percent
of people surveyed by Statistic Brain in 2017 said they have gym
memberships they never use.
Even after a great start, you may nd yourself struggling to nd
motivation to stay on track. Try one of these tips to make it easier to
make your tness regimen stick and most importantly - feel good while
getting t!
Get a workout buddy: If getting out of bed or o the couch is your
biggest challenge, it's time to use the phone-a-friend solution for some
motivation. Find someone you like who's at a similar tness level and
make plans to meet up for a workout. Psychologically, you'll be much
more likely to show up for the class, the weight session or the morning
run when you know someone's waiting for you. Plus, working out will
be a breeze with your buddy!
Streamline your routine: Don't let your fear of sweat keep you from
getting t. With a few tricks, you can get back to glam in minutes, even
when you lack time to shower. First, make smart use of the tools they
have on hand at the gym. Grab some extra towels and pound out
that treadmill run with the high-powered fan on full blast. In the locker
room, hand dryers (and a dab of dry shampoo) are great for getting
your tresses looking great again. Cleansing cloths at the ready can
also be a lifesaver. Summer's Eve Cleansing Cloths let you freshen up
on the go and are balanced to a woman's natural pH, so you'll always
leave the gym feeling fresh and ready to take on the world.
Inspire your ears: Let's face facts: Workouts get tedious. If the thought
of sprinting and lifting your way through the next circuit bores you to
tears, try uploading your playlist with fast-paced music that gets your
heart racing. Don't worry what others think - this is for your ears only!
If it makes you feel good, you'll be more likely to experience a positive
workout.
Be ready for action: As soon as you're home from your session,
re-pack your gym bag as soon as possible so you'll never waste a
moment hunting around the house for your workout gear, such as
sneakers, earbuds and products that help you ease back into your
day. Stash essentials like Summer's Eve Cleansing Wash in your bag
as well for days that you can t in a quick shower after your workout.
It not only gently cleanses and freshens your skin after a grueling
workout, it removes odor-causing bacteria, so you'll feel fantastic,
inside and out.
Update your attire: Ever notice how easy it is to get out of bed when
you know you have a new outt to wear to work? Feeling good about
how you look can put a spring in your step and motivate you to get up
and out the door. When you notice that your tness routine is lagging,
maybe it's time to spruce up your workout attire. Bonus: If you've lost a
few pounds, you'll get an extra lift from that ego boost! (BPT)

When I received a message that I’ll
be writing about the Filipino artist who
has been creating music that shows
the greatest potential to compete with
other socially popular ones, IT IS ONE
BIG YES!
I pulled up in the driveway of his
2-storey home in Gilbert on the day
we set the interview and 26-Year-Old
Barcenilla himself guided me to his studio where all his music
were birthed. He comfortably slumped himself in his couch while
I settled myself on his oce chair and placed my laptop on his
desk. He joked how this looked like a therapy session except we
both know that this isn’t going to be condential. He had no sign
of reservations when he told me that he will be 100% transparent
regardless of the question. That’s what I want to deliver to our
readers and read on because that’s exactly what you will get.

The last time we’ve seen each other was August of 2018 at the
INLA Fashion Show for A Cause where he was the featured artist
and I was the director and host.
Since then, Barcenilla has released his single Timeless gaining
almost 1M streams. He continued to release more including
Timeless Remix, Fallen, Rambo and his most recent one The Ride
that launched midnight of Oct 7th. His song Bittersweet was also
featured in the Netix Film Expo.
Barcenilla has been making his name known in the international
scene as he has performed on stage with famous names in the
industry.
Mentioning a few are his opening acts for Journey’s Lead Vocalist
Arnel Pineda at the Celebrity Theatre and Columbia Record
Artist Lil TJAY at the Stratus. Coming up this Oct 30th, he will be
performing for Interscope Artist K Camp and Warner Records artist
Shordie Shordie.
He not only hustles in his booming musical career because his
priorities include focusing on intellectual development as he is
studying how the business side of industry works while keeping
himself in shape through body building. Topping it all with family
time and helping out in the family business.

He once shared with me that his family is his inspiration so I
couldn’t help but ask about the artists that helped shape his
passion turned career.
Michael Jackson was his biggest inuence along with a wide
range of artists Chris Brown, Usher, Drake, Enrique Iglesias and
our very own Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano. When he saw
Gary V perform in Arizona a couple of years back, he was beyond
impressed.
This led me to ask how his Filipino roots has helped his career.
“I am so proud to be a Filipino. Our culture itself is lled with music
and we are very much united through entertainment.” Barcenilla
said.
He also shared how we are so family oriented giving him the warm
support he needed from the start up to where his is now.

Barcenilla chose Pop,RnB, Hip Hop, OPM music, Spanish
reggaeton, and Dancehall because he believes that his voice ts
the genres and he also has come to love commercially popular
music so it was easy for him to create ones himself.
Digging deeper to creating music, he shares that he starts by
capturing his own feelings. His songs were based o on his
experience in relationships with family, friends and signicant
others. He is currently single and so he is very intentional with
living his life, shaping his career and having fun.
“I’m a very passionate person Ate, my theme right now to
showcase character progression and I’m so happy that my hard
work is nally paying o. I’m glad I have stayed consistent in
showing up in my social media and promoting my songs. The
things I have thought of before is now manifesting itself”
He shares that there is still a lot he needs to go through and work
on to really get his name out there but he’s really grateful for where
he is now and grateful for the support of those who have come to
love his creations.

Barcenilla shared how Fallen and The Ride contains his message
to others. He said that we all give our best to whatever we dene
as our heaven, be it a relationship or a dream but sometimes
we hit rock bottom when we fall to our old patterns or when
our service wasn’t reciprocated. People will tell us that it will be
greener on the other side but no one really knows the pit we want
to escape.
So what do you really do when you're in that transition from rock
bottom to rising up again?
“I want them to know through my music that you don’t beg for
reciprocation and seek validation. You embrace yourself in this
moment because that’s what you need and that’s what you’ve got.
Sometimes you will realize letting go of what’s weighing you down
is what will help you rise up again.” - BARCENILLA
Barcenilla shares that he’s not done. He needs to live his life with
intention so he can continue to spread his message through music.

This down to earth, very transparent, highly positive artist aims to
inspire us to really be honest with ourselves and ask if we really
got this. Because most of the time the answer is Yes!
Thank you Bunso for continuing to chase your dream and
inspiring others to never give up on their dreams and themselves.
Your family, Me (your long distance Ate) and the whole Filipino
community supports you. Mabuhay Ka Barcenilla!

10 cancer facts
that may surprise you
There are more than 100 types of cancer that impact people of all
backgrounds. It's likely that cancer has touched you or someone close
to you. There is a lot to know about cancer and its eects on people in
the United States and around the world. How many of these 10 cancer
facts do you know?
* Cancer is prevalent: In 2019, there will be an estimated 1.7 million new
cancer cases diagnosed in the U.S., according to the American Cancer
Society (ACS). What's more, approximately 39 out of 100 women and
men will develop some form of cancer in their lifetime.
* Skin cancer is the most common cancer for women and men: For
women, the next most common cancers are breast cancer, lung cancer
and colorectal cancer. For men, the next most common cancers are
prostate cancer, lung cancer and colorectal cancer.
* Most cancer patients will receive radiation therapy: About two-thirds
of all cancer patients will receive radiation therapy as part of their
treatment, according to the American Society for Radiation Oncology
(ASTRO). Radiation therapy, or radiotherapy, is the use of various forms
of radiation to treat cancer and other diseases. Radiation therapy has
been an eective cancer treatment for more than 100 years.
* Some cancers are preventable: Not using tobacco is the single best
way a person can prevent cancer from developing. Many cases of
skin cancer could be prevented by protecting the skin from the sun's
ultraviolet radiation and indoor tanning devices. Taking action like
avoiding tobacco and getting immunizations against cancer-causing
infections can help protect you.
* Radiation therapy destroys cancer cell DNA: Radiation therapy works
by damaging the DNA within cancer cells, destroying their ability to
reproduce and causing the cells to die. When the damaged cancer cells
are destroyed by radiation, the body naturally eliminates them. Normal
cells can be aected by radiation, but they can repair themselves in a
way cancer cells cannot.
* Survival rates are increasing: The ve-year relative survival rate for
all cancers is 69 percent, which means that 69 percent of all patients
diagnosed with cancer survive beyond year ve. Treatment advances
and earlier diagnosis for some cancers have contributed to the improved
survival rates. Some cancers, such as prostate and breast, can have
more than a 90% ve-year survival rate if diagnosed early.
* Radiation therapy can cure some cancers: When used as part of a
cancer treatment plan, radiation therapy can destroy tumors that have
not spread to other parts of the body. It can also reduce the risk that the
cancer will return after surgery or chemotherapy, or shrink the cancer
before surgery, notes ASTRO.
* Tobacco use is the most preventable cause of death in the U.S.:
About 30% of all cancer deaths are caused by smoking, notes the ACS.
Cigarette smoking increases the risk of at least 12 cancers: oral cavity
and pharynx, larynx, lung, esophagus, pancreas, uterine cervix, kidney,
bladder, stomach, colorectum, liver and myeloid leukemia.
* Screening is available for some cancers: The benets of screening
for some cancers such as breast, lung, colorectal, and cervical,
may outweigh the potential risks for select, at-risk people. The U.S.
Preventative Services Task Force is responsible for all consumer
screening recommendations.
* Radiation therapy can be external or internal: With external radiation,
a machine directs the high-energy waves at the cancer and some of
the healthy tissue surrounding it. When internal radiation is used, a
radiation source can be delivered by an intravenous injection or by
inserting radioactive pellets or wires directly into the tumor. Learn more

5 tips to make the most out
of your workout routine
Whether you're hitting the gym to get healthy, tone up or improve
your overall well-being, there's no denying that seeing results can
be one of the most satisfying feelings. Noticing even the smallest
change in the way you feel or look is reason enough to lace up your
sneakers for another sweat session. However, when results seem
to plateau or schedules get busy, you might begin to question your
commitment to a tness routine.
Whatever you do, don't give up! Keep the below tips in mind to help
maximize your tness routine and stay on track.
 Instead of ying solo, bring along a friend
so you can encourage each other during your workouts. Exercising
with a buddy can breed a healthy form of competition, but it's also a
great way to hold you accountable. To help maximize the impact, try
to pick a partner that is on the same tness level as you and shares
similar goals - you will want to be able to increase your intensity level
and challenge each other as a team.
 An active lifestyle requires proper nutrition - period.
When regularly exercising, your body needs fuel for optimal
performance and proper recovery. Before a workout, opt for healthy
and easily digestible carbohydrates like brown rice, quinoa, whole-
grain bread and pasta, fruits and vegetables to give you energy.
Afterward, try a protein-packed snack like Emergen-C Protein Fuel
and Superfoods. With 15 grams of organic plant-based protein and
two full servings of 14 superfoods, the protein and superfood powder
blend can help you make the most of your active time by providing
the wholesome nourishment you need, along with supporting your
natural defenses with a high potency serving of vitamin C.
 If your tness goals include improving body
composition and losing weight, you may want to introduce strength
training into your regimen. While exercises such as walking, running
and cycling can do wonders for your cardiovascular health and
help burn calories, strength training with weights can elevate your
metabolism for a longer period - meaning your body will continue
burning calories even after a workout. Plus, strength training can
target and tone those hard-to-reach muscles, improve balance and
help protect your bones.
 After a while, bodies can grow accustomed to the
same exercise routine, often leading to stalled results. If you nd
yourself breezing through a workout, it's time to switch it up and push
your limits. Varying your exercises can challenge your mind and
body, help burn more calories and prevent boredom. If you like to run
long distances, try implementing sprint intervals. At the gym? Try out
new equipment or vary your reps. Challenge your body and you may
be surprised by the results.
 The last way to maximize your tness routine
has nothing to do with the gym at all. In fact, it requires you to skip
the gym. Exercise provides many health benets, but too many
high-intensity workouts can backre, potentially causing injury from
overuse and hindering your results. Be sure to allow your body
enough time to heal before hitting the gym again and try to work
active rest days into your schedule, such as going for a light walk or
bike ride.
Keeping these tips in mind can help you make the most of your
tness routine and magnify your eorts in the gym, on the track,
in the pool or wherever you choose to exercise. Above all, don't
hesitate to ask fellow gym-goers for help or to make modications
when something feels o.

5 tips to keep your packages
safe this holiday season
According to the National Retail Federation, 41.4 million people
shopped exclusively online from Thanksgiving Day to Cyber Monday in
2018. As the holidays approach, online shopping will continue to grow in
popularity, helping families spend more time celebrating the season and
less time struggling through long disorganized lines, ghting massive
crowds of frantic shoppers, and worrying about whether that must-have
gift will still be on shelves at the mall.
While online shopping oers up a convenient way to purchase
holiday gifts, many consumers are concerned about their delivered
packages going missing. Ensuring your online holiday purchases are
securely delivered can make your cyber shopping experience even
more rewarding and stress free. Here are ve tips that will keep your
packages safe and your holidays happy.
1. Get deliveries straight to your garage with Key by Amazon
Online retailers such as Amazon serve as a popular holiday shopping
destination. This season you can get your Prime packages delivered
safely and securely right in your garage with Key by Amazon in-garage
delivery. Amazon recently launched the new service to provide Prime
members in 50 cities and surrounding areas with the option to select in-
garage delivery at checkout. To provide peace of mind that your holiday
purchases won't go missing or get damaged by weather, all you need
is a myQ-connected garage door opener linked to the Key App to have
packages delivered directly into your garage for no extra charge. myQ
technology can be added to all leading brands of garage door openers
in minutes via a Chamberlain myQ smart garage hub, which is being
oered at a low cost this holiday season.
2. Give specic delivery instructions
Most delivery services allow customers to set instructions. Ask your mail
carrier to knock or ring the doorbell so that you are immediately alerted
when a package arrives at your door. If snow, rain or any other weather
issue is a concern, consider requesting that you mail carrier drop o
packages in an out-of-sight dry spot. Get creative with these drop-o
locations and use other delivery points such as back porches, patios
and exterior basement stairs.
3. Sign up for delivery alerts
Major mail carriers and delivery services have systems for tracking
packages. You can use tracking numbers to determine where an item
is, and when it should be delivered. Check with your delivery provider to
see if you can sign up for alerts via email or text message for when your
package is shipped, out for delivery and delivered.
4. Team up with a neighbor
Work with a trustworthy neighbor to mutually look after each other's
packages. If a neighbor is home during an anticipated delivery, ask
permission to have packages sent to their address or have them hold
deliveries that come to your front door. Return the favor whenever
possible, and bake a holiday treat or give a small thank-you gift to show
your appreciation.
5. Request a signature
If you are ordering expensive items online, it is a smart idea to require
a signature for delivery. By requesting a signature before a package
is released, you can ensure that your online purchases are never left
unattended. If you are not home at the time of delivery, the mail carrier
will typically leave a note with options for rescheduling the delivery for a
more convenient time or picking the package up in-person.
Holiday shopping is already stressful. Give yourself the gift of peace by
trying out some of these package delivery tips, and spend more time
enjoying the moments that matter.

survivors in their care, and nd out if it accepts
pets now or is interested in nding resources to
become pet-friendly (if so, tell them about the

of clothing, diapers, toys and other comfort items
for people and pets, there are a lot of things
domestic violence shelters may need to care for
the survivors they serve.

A nationwide effort
to help domestic
violence shelters
become pet-friendly
An estimated 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men
will experience some form of domestic
abuse in their lifetime. Escaping abusive
situations and starting over in a new and
safe environment is an overwhelming
experience for victims, especially when pets
are involved. An added challenge is that
few (approximately 10 percent) domestic
violence shelters in the U.S. accept and
house pets. This leaves abuse victims with
a dicult decision - ee to safety but leave
their pet behind or stay with their abuser?
Almost half of domestic violence victims
choose to stay in an abusive situation out of
fear of what might happen to their pet if they
leave.
Pets provide unconditional love and comfort,
demonstrate loyalty and devotion, and teach
people about care and compassion. Pets can
also sense when their owners experience
sadness or pain, and their presence can
provide comfort and promote healing.
That's why Purina has partnered with
RedRover, a national nonprot organization
that helps people and animals in crisis
situations, to create the Purple Leash
Project. The Purple Leash Project not only
raises awareness about this issue, but the
program also helps provide funding and
resources necessary to help more domestic
violence shelters become safe, healing
spaces for pets and people.
As part of the initiative, the business is
committing more than $500,000 to establish
Purple Leash Project grants, which are
awarded in partnership with RedRover
to shelters across the country to fund
renovations to make their shelter spaces
pet-friendly. The project aims to increase
the number of pet-friendly domestic abuse
shelters across the U.S. to ensure there are
more resources available for survivors with
pets in every state. Purina is also advocating
for the cause at a federal level as a founding
member of the PAWS Act Coalition, which
helped pass legislation that will provide

I wrote the number up and
pasted it on the wall because
I’m like, ‘This is a lifeline, this is
where I’m going to turn my life
around. I’m going to get safe,
and I’m going to stay safe.’
I found myself in the car,
leaving town to stay with family
and I picked up the phone and
called The Hotline. I knew they
would be there when I needed
to talk and they were. What
I got from talking to them on
the phone that day was a level
of understanding that I had
never had before, a level that
my friends and family couldn’t
provide. They understood
exactly where I was and what
I was going through.
