Mi-ae Hope Clemente Nkulu Makes History as Filipino-Congolese American West Point Graduate

Mi-ae Hope Clemente Nkulu is being celebrated as the first female of Filipina-Congolese American descent to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Nkulu graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point on May 23, 2026, after completing 47 months of rigorous academic, military, physical, and leadership training. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and was among the 998 cadets who graduated from the 1,209 who began the journey.

The milestone carries special meaning for her parents, Rhia Luz and Noel Nkulu of Arizona, and for the family, friends, and Fil-Am community members who gathered to celebrate her graduation.

During her time at West Point, Nkulu built a record of discipline and service. She completed three Norwegian Marches, earned her Air Assault qualification, and served as a Football Manager for the Army Black Knights beginning in her sophomore, or “Yuk,” year.

In her senior, or “Firstie,” year, she was entrusted with overseeing the Physical Fitness Test for her entire regiment, a responsibility that reflected the confidence placed in her leadership.

With graduation, Nkulu was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. She will continue her service in Aviation, with upcoming training at Fort Rucker, Alabama, known as the Home of Army Aviation.

Her family credited steady support, sacrifice, and encouragement as important parts of her journey through West Point’s demanding training environment. Social media posts from friends and community members also celebrated Nkulu’s achievement as an inspiration for young people who dream of serving, leading, and breaking barriers.

Nkulu’s graduation reflects perseverance, family support, and representation in one of the country’s most respected military institutions.

Congratulations to Mi-ae Hope Clemente Nkulu on this historic achievement and on the beginning of her next chapter as an officer in the United States Army.
